In the fast-evolving world of electric vehicles (EVs), China’s First Auto Works (FAW) is making its mark with the introduction of the Bestune Xiaoma Small Electric. This innovative micro-EV, under the Bestune brand, is poised to take on the reigning champion, the Wuling Hongguang Mini EV. Priced between ₹3.47 lakh and ₹5.78 lakh (30,000 to 50,000 Yuan), the Bestune Xiaoma offers impressive features and an unbeatable range.
The FAW Entry into the Micro-EV Segment
FAW, a prominent player in the automotive industry, is venturing into the micro-EV segment with the launch of the Bestune Xiaoma. This move highlights the growing demand for compact and eco-friendly vehicles. Pre-sales for this electric car are set to begin this month, creating a buzz among car enthusiasts.
A Challenger for the Microcar Throne
The Bestune Xiaoma is gearing up for a face-off with the Wuling Hongguang Mini EV, which currently reigns as China’s best-selling microcar. With its attractive pricing and impressive features, the Xiaoma aims to disrupt the market and give the Hongguang a run for its money.
Aesthetic Appeal and Innovation
Unveiled at the Shanghai Auto Show in April, the Bestune Xiaoma made quite an impression. Initially offered in both hardtop and convertible variants, the hardtop version will be the first to hit the market. The car’s interior boasts a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system and an eye-catching dual-tone dashboard theme.
A Playful Yet Aerodynamic Design
The Xiaomi Small Electric embraces a distinctive boxy profile, complete with a dual-tone color scheme that exudes a playful and animated aesthetic. Standout design elements include large square headlamps with rounded corners and aerodynamic wheels that optimize range. The rear of the car maintains a cohesive design theme with matching tail lamps and bumper.
Built for Efficiency and Range
The Bestune Xiaoma rides on the Xiaoma FME platform, featuring a dedicated chassis for EV and range extender models. The FME platform comprises two sub-platforms, A1 and A2, designed to accommodate vehicles with varying wheelbases. Impressively, the EV variant offers a range exceeding 800 kilometers, while the extender model boasts an astonishing 1200 kilometers. Both platforms support an 800 V architecture, ensuring efficient power delivery.
Under the Hood
Powering this micro-EV is a single 20 kW electric motor situated on the rear axle. The vehicle relies on a lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) battery sourced from Goshan and REPT, though specific powertrain details are yet to be disclosed. Safety is a priority, with the Bestune Xiaoma featuring a driver-side airbag and adopting a 3-door configuration. The car’s dimensions measure 3000mm in length, 1510mm in width, 1630mm in height, with a wheelbase of 1,953mm.
