Hyundai Motor Company has unveiled the all-new Hyundai Inster EV at the 2024 Busan International Mobility Show. This sub-compact electric vehicle, inspired by the Hyundai Casper, is set to be Hyundai’s entry-level EV in global markets. While its release in India remains uncertain, the Inster EV promises to offer competitive features and impressive performance.
Battery and Performance
The Hyundai Inster EV will be available with two battery pack options: a standard 42 kWh unit and a long-range 49 kWh unit. Both variants are equipped with a single motor, delivering 71.7 kW in the 42 kWh model and 84.5 kW in the 49 kWh model.
Regardless of the model, the torque output remains consistent at 147 Nm. The long-range variant boasts a WLTP range of 355 km, while the standard model offers a 300 km range. Charging efficiency is also noteworthy, with the Inster capable of charging from 10-80% in just 30 minutes using a 120 kW DC fast charger. An 11 kW on-board charger comes standard.
Speed and Acceleration
In terms of performance, the standard variant of the Hyundai Inster EV reaches a top speed of 140 km/h and accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 11.7 seconds. The long-range variant, on the other hand, has a top speed of 150 km/h and achieves 0-100 km/h in 10.6 seconds. These performance metrics position the Inster as a competitive option in the sub-compact EV market.
Design and Aesthetics
The Hyundai Inster EV features a compact yet bold design, characterized by its modern aesthetics. The vehicle has round LED projection headlights and circular LED DRLs above the front bumper.
Flared wheel arches, angular cuts, and 4-spoke alloys on the top-spec variant enhance the rugged look. The car also features pixel graphic turn signals and a bold skid plate, adding to its futuristic and robust appearance.
Dimensions and Interior
The Hyundai Inster EV is 230 mm longer than the Casper, with a wheelbase extended by 180 mm, providing more interior space. The versatile interior includes seats that can be folded flat, with the second row offering a 50:50 split, sliding, and reclining capabilities.
Optional heated front seats add to the comfort. The dashboard is equipped with a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, navigation, and a wireless charging dock.
Additional features include 64-color ambient lighting, a digital instrument console, and a one-touch sunroof. The Inster also comes with a comprehensive ADAS system, enhancing safety and convenience.
Global Launch Plans
Hyundai plans to launch the Inster EV first in Korea, followed by Europe, the Middle East, and finally the Asia-Pacific region. Additionally, a more rugged and outdoorsy version of the Inster, named the Inster Cross, is expected to be introduced soon.
Conclusion
The Hyundai Inster EV is poised to make a significant impact in the sub-compact EV market with its impressive range, efficient charging, modern design, and versatile interior. As Hyundai expands its EV lineup, the Inster is set to offer a compelling option for consumers seeking a practical and stylish electric vehicle.
