Greenworms was co-founded by Jabir Karat and Mohammad Jamsheer, two changemakers from Kerala with a shared vision of building sustainable, inclusive waste management systems. Jabir Karat, the CEO, hails from Thamarassery in Kozhikode and is a former Gandhi Fellow from the Kaivalya Education Foundation. His experience working in slums and observing the lives of informal waste pickers deeply influenced his decision to address the environmental and social challenges of waste. In 2014, driven by the need to create dignified jobs and tackle plastic pollution, he started Greenworms. His leadership focuses on creating systemic change through grassroots impact. Mohammad Jamsheer, the CFO and co-founder, brings financial and operational expertise to the organization. He plays a crucial role in building sustainable value chains and ensuring the scalability and viability of Greenworms’ model. Together, Jabir and Jamsheer have built a purpose-driven enterprise that not only manages waste responsibly but also empowers marginalized communities, particularly women, through fair employment and social inclusion.

At the core of Greenworms’ operations is a strong commitment to environmental sustainability and social equity. The company works with informal waste pickers, primarily women from underprivileged backgrounds, offering them dignified employment, fair wages, and safe working conditions. By integrating these workers into a formal waste management system, Greenworms empowers communities while ensuring the efficient collection, segregation, and recycling of non-biodegradable waste.

Greenworms partners with municipalities, corporations, and households to provide end-to-end waste management solutions. Their services include door-to-door waste collection, material recovery, and extended producer responsibility (EPR) compliance for businesses. With a data-driven model and a transparent supply chain, the company ensures that collected waste is ethically processed and diverted from landfills and oceans.

As of recent reports, Greenworms has diverted thousands of tons of waste from landfills and empowered over 1,000 women through sustainable employment. The organization also promotes environmental awareness and behavior change through community engagement and educational initiatives.
