Urdhavam Technologies Groundwater Monitoring and Recharge Technologies for Farmers

Urdhavam Environmental Technologies Pvt. Ltd. is a pioneering agritech company focused on sustainable water management and groundwater recharge solutions. Established in 2013, Urdhavam leverages advanced technologies such as IoT, robotics, and mobile applications to address India’s pressing water scarcity issues, particularly in rural and agricultural regions.

At the core of Urdhvam’s innovation is the BoreCharger, a patented, robotic rainwater harvesting system designed to rejuvenate failed or underperforming borewells. By perforating existing borewell casings, the BoreCharger facilitates the harvesting of seasonal rainwater from unconfined aquifers, enabling the recharge of deeper, confined aquifers. This method significantly enhances groundwater levels, improving water availability for irrigation, drinking, and domestic use. To date, over 1,500 BoreCharger units have been implemented across eight Indian states and West Africa, collectively recharging more than 165 crore liters of water.

In addition to BoreCharger, Urdhvam develops a Groundwater Monitoring Sensors Network that utilizes IoT-enabled sensors to monitor water levels in wells. This system provides real-time data on water levels, pumping activities, and historical trends, offering valuable insights for water resource management and decision-making.

Urdhavam’s commitment to innovation and sustainability has garnered recognition from various prestigious institutions. The company has received support from organizations such as IIM Ahmedabad, DFID, HDFC Bank, Hindustan Unilever Foundation, Villgro, and IIM Kashipur. Furthermore, Urdhvam has been part of several accelerators, including Sangam Ventures, AISEA-IIT Hyderabad, and the Land Accelerator by WRI. The company has also been honored with awards from the Maharashtra State Innovation Society, FICCI, Indigram-Adhunik Gram, Rotary International, Aegis Graham Bell Award, and the Columbia Global Center.
