The India Energy Storage Alliance (IESA) is a prominent industry collective dedicated to advancing energy storage, e-mobility, green hydrogen, and emerging technologies in India. Established in 2012 by Customized Energy Solutions (CES), IESA aims to position India as a global leader in R&D, manufacturing, and the adoption of cutting-edge energy solutions.

Currently, IESA boasts a robust network of over 170 member companies spanning various sectors, including energy storage, electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing, EV charging infrastructure, green hydrogen, microgrids, power electronics, renewable energy, research institutions, universities, and cleantech startups.

India Energy Storage Week 2024: A Glimpse into the Future

With only a week remaining before India’s premier energy storage and advanced battery event, the India Energy Storage Week (IESW) is gearing up for its 10th edition in New Delhi. At a grand press conference, IESA announced potential investments exceeding INR 2000 Crore at IESW 2024.

The event was graced by esteemed guests such as Cristian Valdes Carter, Director & Commercial Counsellor – India at Innovation Norway, Royal Norwegian Embassy in New Delhi; Nashid Chowdhury, Investment and Trade Commissioner, India-Gulf, Government of Western Australia, along with 10+ industry CXOs, IESA executives, and other government representatives.

Key Announcements and Partnerships

Scheduled from July 1-5, 2024, IESW 2024 will feature participation from over 150 key partners and exhibitors, and more than 1000 companies. The event will highlight five new factory announcements, showcasing India’s commitment to becoming a global energy storage and cleantech hub.

VFlowTech’s Major Milestone

Singapore-based VFlowTech will unveil the largest long-duration energy storage manufacturing facility (non-lithium battery) at Palwal, Haryana during IESW 2024. Vivek Seth, Managing Director (India) of VFlowTech India Pvt Ltd, emphasized the significance of the new facility in the company’s expansion strategy.

The high-tech plant, initially capable of producing 100 MWh annually, aims to scale up to a Gigafactory within two years, backed by significant investments from its Singaporean parent company.

Nash Energy’s Innovative Li-Ion Battery Plant

Nash Energy will introduce its indigenously produced Li-Ion battery cell at IESW 2024. Anil Kumar, COO of Nash Energy, highlighted that they are the first in India to establish a large-scale Li-Ion battery manufacturing plant.

Located in Karnataka, this plant has an initial annual capacity of 600 MWh, scalable to 1.5 GWh, producing LFP cylindrical 32140 format cells. Production is set to commence next month.

BatX Energies’ Recycling Facility

BatX Energies will proudly announce the launch of HUB-1, a state-of-the-art battery recycling and materials extraction facility, at IESW 2024. Designed to process 2.5 thousand metric tons of battery materials annually, HUB-1 supports the global transition to a sustainable and circular economy. This facility integrates an advanced material science research lab funded by the Ministry of Heavy Industries, a commercial-scale battery refurbishing setup, and a patented material extraction plant.

Lohum’s Next-Gen Battery Technology

Lohum, a leader in lithium-ion battery recycling, will reveal its entry into next-generation ‘Manganese-rich’ lithium-ion battery technology manufacturing. Supported by an R&D grant from India’s Ministry of Mines, the company has enlisted ex-Tesla veteran Chaitanya Sharma, founder of Nascent Materials, to spearhead this initiative.

Bharat Cell’s BSES Manufacturing Facility

Bharat Cell by Khusmanda Power will announce a 2 GWh BSES system manufacturing facility at IESW 2024, further cementing India’s role in the energy storage sector.

Product Launches and Strategic Collaborations

IESW 2024 is recognized as Asia’s largest platform for new product launches in energy storage, electric mobility, and green hydrogen. This year’s launches will include a 20 ft BESS System, a specialized solvent extractant chemical for cobalt recovery, isothermal air compression & expansion technology for extended energy storage, and a composite overwrapped pressure vessel for green hydrogen storage.

The event will also witness the signing of over five Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) and partnership deals, including an MoU between IESA and Powering Australia. Additionally, three knowledge papers will be unveiled, focusing on India’s roadmap for battery-grade graphite, battery raw materials availability, and mobility electrification in India.

High-Level Participation and Global Collaboration

IESW 2024 has secured confirmations from over 10 central ministries and bodies, including the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Ministry of Power (MoP), Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI), Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MEITY), Ministry of Mines, Ministry of Science & Technology, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), NITI Aayog, the Principal Scientific Advisor (PSA), and others.

The event will also feature participation from countries like Australia, Norway, Finland, Japan, South Korea, Germany, France, Singapore, the UK, the USA, and more.

Empowering Innovation and Startups

IESW 2024 will host over 10 parallel sessions organized by various partners, including the LDES Council, Indo-German Energy Forum (IGEF), World Resources Institute (WRI), Shakti Foundation, ULSE, and the International Solar Alliance (ISA).

The event will also feature 50+ startups, 10+ incubation centers, and leading investors, including Shell Ventures and Chakra Growth Fund Singularity, as part of the IESW Start-Up Day program and Founders Roundtable.

Women in Energy Forum

The Women in Energy Forum, co-hosted with the German Energy Forum (IGEF-SO), will see the participation of over 200 women leaders from the energy storage, electric mobility, and green hydrogen sectors, highlighting the crucial role of women in the industry.
