Sustainable Development Goals

SDG 7 – Affordable and Clean Energy, SDG 9 – Industry Innovation and Infrastructure

Company Overview

SenseHawk is a software company that provides a cloud-based platform for planning, building, commissioning and operating utility-scale solar and wind assets. Its flagship product, TaskMapper, brings drone imagery, GIS layers, engineering design files, field forms and schedule data into one map-based system. Developers, EPC contractors, asset owners and O&M teams then work from a shared record of each project site.

The company was founded by Swarup Mavanoor and Rahul Sankhe and incorporated in the United States in June 2018. Its origins trace to cost overruns at a large solar construction site in 2016, which led the founders to develop drone and software tools that were piloted across 20 sites. A beta release followed in January 2019, and the core platform and application suite launched in September 2019. Swarup Mavanoor serves as co-founder and chief executive officer.

The platform is built around digital twin models of the site map, equipment and work processes, combined with AI-based analysis of drone and thermal imagery. In December 2025 the company added NaaviX, a natural language assistant, together with business intelligence reporting tools. The offering started with solar and now extends to wind farm construction and inspection.

SenseHawk is headquartered in Campbell, California, with operations in India, the United Arab Emirates and Spain. In September 2022 Reliance Industries agreed to acquire a majority stake in the company, a step that placed SenseHawk within a large Indian energy group and supported its product and research programmes.

Why These SDGs Matter

SDG 7 is directly relevant because the platform is built for the construction and operation of solar and wind generation assets. By helping owners and contractors deliver plants to schedule and locate performance losses such as hot spots and string faults, the software supports the build-out and productive operation of renewable capacity.

The alignment extends across project types, from utility-scale solar farms to wind farm construction. Component-level records of inspections and commissioning tests give asset owners a basis for managing generation assets throughout their operating life.

SDG 9 applies because the company supplies digital infrastructure for delivering energy infrastructure. Its geospatial system of record, quality workflows and drone-based monitoring change how large projects are planned, inspected and handed over, which relates to the goal of upgrading infrastructure through wider technology adoption and more efficient resource use.

Approach & Methodology

SenseHawk structures each project as a set of linked digital twins. A map twin ingests drone orthomosaics, digital elevation models and CAD layers so that teams can run cut and fill analysis and compare as-built conditions with the design. An equipment twin organises a plant from substation to inverter, string and module, and attaches serialized components, datasheets, warranties, IV curves and SCADA alarms to each level. A process twin ties inspections, approvals and checklists to the asset they concern.

Field data enters through an offline-capable mobile application that captures geo-tagged photos and digital forms, which synchronise to the map when connectivity returns. Master schedules from Primavera P6 or MS Project can be imported and linked to construction workflows, and the platform generates S-curves and variance flags from the resulting progress data.

For inspections, the company states that its proprietary AI classifies more than 30 anomaly types in thermal drone imagery, estimates power loss, and produces reports in the IEC 62446-3 format. Identified anomalies can be turned into map-based work orders for remediation.

A no-code workflow builder lets project teams configure quality checks, punch lists and commissioning handovers without software development. Data from these modules feeds BI dashboards and the NaaviX assistant, which answers natural language questions about project status and offers schedule risk forecasts.

Market Position

SenseHawk operates in the market for renewable energy project and asset lifecycle software, with solar as its established segment and wind as a newer one. Its users include solar developers, EPC contractors, independent power producers, asset owners and O&M providers.

The company reports managing more than 200 GW of solar and storage capacity globally. Figures published in 2022 by Reliance Industries and trade press cited more than 140 customers in 15 countries and over 600 sites.

The company positions its products as purpose-built for utility-scale renewables rather than adapted from general construction tools, a comparison drawn in its own materials. Its differentiation rests on combining GIS mapping, drone analytics and AI-based thermal analysis in one workflow. Nextracker’s 2024 licensing of certain SenseHawk technology and Reliance Industries’ majority ownership indicate interest from established solar sector players.

Procurement Considerations
  • Confirm coverage for your asset type (solar, wind, hybrid) and project stage, from development through O&M
  • Check compatibility with existing schedule tools, including Primavera P6 and MS Project file imports
  • Review security documentation, including the ISO 27001 scope and the CyberVadis assessment
  • Clarify drone data requirements, such as sensors, flight providers and the IEC 62446-3 thermal report format
  • Test offline field app performance at remote or low-connectivity sites
  • Request the licensing and pricing model, including per-project and portfolio terms
  • Confirm data ownership, export, retention and hosting region terms
  • Review ownership and IP licensing arrangements, including Reliance Industries’ majority stake and Nextracker’s technology license, when assessing data governance
Funding, Recognition & Ecosystem
  • First institutional round from SAIF Partners in September 2018; Series A of about $2 million from SAIF Partners and angel investors
  • Series A1 of $5.1 million from Alpha Wave Incubation (a Falcon Edge Capital venture fund) in September 2020, with SAIF Partners participating
  • Reliance Industries agreed in September 2022 to acquire a 79.4% stake for about $32 million, through primary infusion and secondary purchase, covering growth, product rollout and R&D
  • Nextracker acquired licenses to certain SenseHawk IP in August 2024, disclosed in July 2025
  • CyberVadis Gold medal for cybersecurity assessment
  • Innovatech Award 2022, Construction Management Software of the Year, as listed by the company
  • Solar Future Awards recognitions in 2021 and 2022, as listed by the company
Natnavi Analysis

SenseHawk matters because the delivery phase of solar and wind projects is still managed through spreadsheets and disconnected reports in many organisations. Schedules, quality and commissioning determine when a plant starts producing power, so a geospatial system of record aimed at that phase addresses a practical bottleneck in renewable energy deployment.

The company’s sustainability contribution is enabling rather than direct. It does not generate or sell energy, but its software supports the construction, inspection and maintenance of assets that do. That places it in the category of digital infrastructure for the energy transition, and its relevance grows with the scale of solar and wind build-out.

Strengths include a lifecycle scope covering planning through operations, support for both solar and wind, a documented security posture, and backing from Reliance Industries. Its coverage of more than 200 GW is a company-reported figure and is best confirmed during procurement.

Prospective buyers may also wish to review data governance terms, since a major renewable developer holds a majority stake and another solar technology provider has licensed part of the company’s technology. Impact is measured mainly through project efficiency, so buyers should ask for performance evidence relevant to their own portfolios.
