Tvasta Manufacturing Solutions is an Indian deep-tech company that develops construction 3D printing systems. It was founded in 2016 by alumni of IIT Madras and began as a consultancy before moving to a product-focused model built around concrete 3D printing.
The company designs and manufactures its own printers, formulates printable concrete mixes and runs a proprietary modelling platform that prepares designs for printing. It works with architects, contractors, infrastructure firms, research institutions and government-linked organisations. Its work covers both complete structures and research and development setups.
Tvasta worked with the Civil Engineering Department at IIT Madras to build what was reported as India’s first 3D printed structure, and the pair set up the IIT Madras Printability Lab. Later milestones include Ananta Siras, a 3D printed monument built for the 75th anniversary of The India Cements in Chennai. The company also printed a structure in Kerala in partnership with KESNIK, and opened a concrete 3D printing research lab with Saintgits College of Engineering in Kottayam.
In 2026 Tvasta delivered a 3D printed office at Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers in Kolkata. In May 2026 it launched Cedar, a portal-frame concrete printer developed with the construction technology company 14Trees.
SDG 9 applies because Tvasta builds industrial equipment, materials and software for construction. It has developed printers in the country rather than importing them, and it works with research institutions such as IIT Madras and Saintgits College of Engineering. Its Cedar printer is aimed at developers, contractors, infrastructure firms and public sector clients.
SDG 11 applies because the company's stated focus is housing and public utilities. Its work has been linked to India's Housing for All scheme under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, and to toilet construction under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. Faster offsite and onsite printing of buildings and modular structures can support quicker delivery of shelter and basic infrastructure.
Tvasta delivers construction 3D printing as an integrated system of hardware, material and software. The printers are extrusion-based and deposit concrete layer by layer, following a digital model. Gantry, portal-frame and robotic arm configurations are used, so the system can be matched to project size, from research work to large structures.
The company describes two construction methods. In the offsite method, modules are printed in a controlled environment and assembled at the site. In the onsite method, a larger printer fabricates the structure where it will stand. The Kerala project combined both methods using the same printer. The Kolkata office used the offsite method, which suits modular, quick-to-deploy buildings.
Material development runs alongside machine design. Tvasta has developed its own 3D printable concrete mixture. With Cedar, the process adds the 14Trees AI Companion, a digital platform intended to optimise mix performance using locally available materials. This is meant to reduce the need for specialised imported mixes. The proprietary modelling platform prepares designs and printing parameters before fabrication.
Tvasta also builds capacity through collaborations with academic partners. Joint laboratories at IIT Madras and Saintgits College of Engineering give researchers access to concrete printing equipment, which supports work on printability and reinforcement.
Tvasta operates in the construction 3D printing segment, which sits between construction equipment and additive manufacturing. Its customers include construction firms, developers, public sector organisations, shipyards, industrial companies and academic institutions. Reported projects include work for The India Cements, Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers, and KESNIK.
The company describes itself as the maker of India's first construction 3D printer, and early reports credit it with India's first 3D printed structure. It received the National Startup Awards 2021 in the Industry 4.0 sector, 3D Printing category. Industry coverage has noted its range of gantry and robotic arm systems. Cedar adds AI-assisted mix optimisation and the use of standard concrete formulations. Reported completed construction exceeded 5,000 square feet by 2023.
Tvasta matters because it addresses a gap in Indian construction: locally designed automation equipment. Construction 3D printing is often associated with imported systems. A domestic manufacturer that controls its printers, materials and software can adapt them to local conditions and costs.
The company's sustainability contribution rests on faster, more automated construction and on material use that is controlled by digital design. Its work on affordable housing and modular infrastructure links to national priorities. The Cedar launch also points to ambitions beyond India, with a printer meant for varied sites and local materials.
Strengths include a long record of public projects, academic partnerships and a product line that covers research-scale and large-format systems. The offsite and hybrid methods give clients options when site access is limited.
Buyers should note that environmental performance figures such as embodied carbon or material savings have not been published in the sources reviewed. Procurement teams will benefit from asking for project-specific data, structural testing records and local code approvals. Cedar is also new, so field performance will become clearer as deployments are documented. Overall, Tvasta is a significant domestic technology provider in an emerging segment.
